Seriously. This is a next-level pro tip. Go on Amazon, and purchase a raincoat with matching boots if you want. This is what the carnival pros do. Not only will it protect your hair, but it will also shield you for that early morning cold water shocker

4. Pre-Treat with Oil
Apply a generous amount of oil -preferably coconut- to your hair before heading out. This creates a barrier that makes it easier to wash out any paint or mud later.
5. Quick Rinse
After J'ouvert, give your hair a quick rinse with water. This helps remove the bulk of the debris and makes your thorough wash later much easier. Most established J'ouvert's have a solution similar to the video below. Take advantage of it.
6. Deep Clean
Once you’re home, use a clarifying shampoo to deep clean your hair. Follow up with a hydrating conditioner to restore moisture.
