Let's be honest, nobody is doing makeup for Jab Jab. Not us, not you. The point is the oil, the chaos, the music, and that moment you realise you're free at 5:00am, covered in black, chipping like you have no responsibilities.
Quick note though, some Jab sections still use old engine oil. If we're being grown, that's not the kind of thing you want sitting on your skin for hours. We can have that conversation another time. You only live once, but still, protect your skin and protect your hair.

The Vibe and the Reality
Jab Jab is a fast-paced, high-contact road experience. People will throw oil, rub oil, and treat personal space like it doesn't exist. It's not always malicious, it's just how it goes, but it can be a lot, especially if you're not from Grenada.
So do this:
- Move in a group, do not wander off alone.
- If you can, roll with a trusted male friend.
- Be loud with boundaries. "No" and "Easy" work fine.
- Keep your hands free, keep your phone packed away.
What to Wear
Your Jab Jab outfit is a sacrifice. Wear nothing you want to see again.
What works:
- Old cotton tee or tank
- Dark shorts or bike shorts
- Sports bra or old bikini top (skip underwire)
- Old closed-toe sneakers
- Socks, yes socks
What to avoid:
- Anything new
- Anything light coloured
- Open shoes
- Jewellery
- A phone with no protection
- Buying oil sachets at the airport. It's a scam. The locals carry enough oil for everyone.

What to Bring
You do not need to carry water, bar trucks are on the road. What you do need is a little cash.
- A small amount of cash, for street food and that private after Jab Jab lime boat situation. If you know, you know. Ask for it.
- Waterproof phone pouch
- Garbage bag for dirty clothes and for the car seat after
- A full change of clothes in a sealed bag
Hair, Do Not Gamble
Oil in hair can turn into a whole week of stress. Keep it simple. Cornrows or tight braids, plus a fitted cap. Conditioner in the hair before the cap helps as a barrier.
How to Get the Oil Off, Without Wrecking Your Skin
The goal is to lift oil first, then cleanse. If you rush to water, you spread it.
- Step 1, wipe first. Use an old tee or towel to wipe off as much oil as possible before you shower.
- Step 2, break it down. Use conditioner, baby oil, or an oil cleanser on the skin. Work it in, then wipe again.
- Step 3, wash gently. Use a mild body wash, then repeat if you need to. If you have sensitive skin, keep it gentle, then moisturise properly after.
- Step 4, moisturise. Your skin barrier has been through a lot. Put something soothing back on it.
