Bianca Manzano on Hibiscus Bloom, Designing for ICONIC Mas, and Why Tobago Carnival Matters

As the final page of the Carnival calendar turns toward Tobago, one section is already standing out, Hibiscus Bloom by Chineechic Concepts, the creative brainchild of Bianca Manzano. Back for her fourth year designing with ICONIC Mas, Bianca is not just a section leader; she’s a former masquerader, costume model, realtor, luxury vehicle seller, and self-made powerhouse who’s poured her lived experience into every feather, gem, and wire bra.
This year, ICONIC Mas introduces its 2025 theme: Tropical Bliss: a celebration of Caribbean beauty and ease. Within it, Bianca’s Hibiscus Bloom feels especially intentional: vibrant, fresh, and deeply rooted in her personal evolution.
“The hibiscus is everywhere in the Caribbean,” she says. “It’s full of life and colour. I wanted to reflect that same bold energy, but also my own growth in the band. I’ve blossomed over the years, and this section is proof.”

Bianca’s journey from the road to the sketchpad wasn’t accidental—it was necessary. Having worn dozens of costumes, she knew exactly what was missing.
“Uncomfortable waistbands. Itchy fabrics. Designs that look amazing but fall apart or dig into your skin after the third hour,” she explains. “That’s what I set out to change.”
Each piece of Hibiscus Bloom balances visual impact with real-road comfort. Every decision is filtered through one question: Can she dance in this for hours and still feel confident?
“I’ve been that girl who had to tape, pin, or smile through discomfort. Not my masqueraders. Not this time.”
But what truly sets Tobago apart for her?
“It’s the last Carnival of the year. The pressure’s off. The energy is light, the people are in celebration mode. You leave Tobago with your cup full. That’s the energy I wanted this section to carry.”
Bianca doesn’t just design a costume. She builds an experience—one that starts from the first pre-party and ends when the last gem is shaken loose on the road. And like any seasoned masquerader, she knows preparation is half the joy.

Behind the scenes, it wasn’t always smooth. One moment that stands out?
“It was 2 a.m. and nothing was coming together...feathers, colours, everything looked off. I just pulled it all apart and started again from scratch. That version ended up being the final look. Sometimes you have to destroy the thing to rebuild it right.”

Finished Product
She’s also big on community-building within her section. For her, it’s not just about who you cross the stage with—it’s about who you lime with before.
“Those pre-events matter. The J’ouvert, the raft up, the link-ups. I want people to show up on Carnival Sunday and feel like they’re with their crew. That makes the whole experience more real.”
When asked what makes ICONIC Mas truly iconic, Bianca doesn’t miss a beat.
“It’s how people feel in costume. It’s not just the feathers and the photo ops. It’s confidence, care, and cohesion. I want every masquerader to say: ‘Yeah, Chineechic Concepts took care of me.’ Because that’s what I’m really building—trust.”

About Bianca Manzano
Standing at 5'3", Bianca is not your typical designer. She's a multi-hyphenate force—Mercedes-Benz sales rep, costume designer, section leader, model and former event promoter. She moves with intention, builds with precision and shows up in every space with the same ambition that defines her work. Her Tobago Carnival section, Hibiscus Bloom under Chineechic Concepts, is just one more extension of a woman who doesn’t just wear many hats—she designs them too.
